Juan M. Villanueva is a second-generation florist whose journey from the vibrant wildflower-filled pastures of South Texas to the bustling streets of Manhattan is redefining the world of floral design.
Initially trained as a painter and sculptor at the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Villanueva soon discovered his passion for floral design, founding his own floral design company in Manhattan in 2008. His debut solo art exhibition in Chelsea, Manhattan, in early 2023 showcased the incredible and varied depth of his talents.
As a state-certified instructor at FlowerSchool NY, he is shaping the future of floral design by passing on his unique blend of skills to the next generation of master florists. His courses in floral design and large-scale installations are highly sought after internationally, and for good reason.
This is in part due to his exceptional talent, which has captured the attention of industry titans throughout his career. Notably, he showcased his skills as a contestant on the HGTV/Discovery+ topiary competition 'Clipped!', judged by Martha Stewart. In addition, Porsche USA commissioned him to craft a floral sculpture for the spring opening of the New York City Ballet in 2023.
Throughout his tenure as a NYC florist, he has worked with high-profile personalities such as Will & Jada Pinkett Smith, Kelly Clarkson, Francis McDormand, Ben Stiller, Naomi Campbell, and Betsey Johnson, as well as corporate giants such as Google, LOUIS XIII Cognac, Nike, and Ford Models. His collaborations with esteemed interior designers like Alessandra Branca and Rafael de Cardenas, along with features in publications like Architectural Digest and Florist’s Review, underscore the breadth of his influence.
